The physicists, mathematicians, astronomers and engineers associated with the Interstellar Research Centre are interested in a broad range of problems that we typically refer to as the big questions of life, the Universe and everything. What unites us is using the tools of scientific enquiry to create our hypothesis upon which our theories are based. However, we are also not afraid to perturb accepted notions of thought so as to push into new paradigms of knowledge.

The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.” Arthur C Clarke

The Vision

To work towards the realisation of a future where starships can be designed, constructed and launched beyond the outer solar system and towards other stars, for the purpose of deep space exploration and colonisation, in the event of a profound astrophysical or astrobiological discovery, or a significant existential threat to our existence or planet Earth.

The Mission

To conduct scientific research which leads to design readiness of a mature starship capability by around the year 2100.

How this is achieved?

1.       To conduct design studies, mission analysis and original research relating to deep space exploration and interstellar studies.

a.       Conduct fundamental research into technologies, potential and risks.

b.      Design space vehicles for different mission scenarios.

c.       Track all historical and current documents as an interstellar archive.

2.       To develop scientific models and tools to mature starship capabilities and maintain planetary design readiness.

a.      Construct models of historical missions and vehicle design concepts.

b.      Fold results of historical literature into models.

c.      Build numerical tools for efficient design and mission analysis.

3.  To communicate the vision of a cosmic humanity through public education activities.

a.      Educate people on existential risks and solutions enabled by the starship.

b.      Communicate and inspire people behind the vision of an interstellar culture.

c.      Advocate for interstellar and interstellar precursor missions.
