About the Workshop

The 2020 workshop was to take place in the town of Woolacombe, Devon, United Kingdom. This was to be a special more focussed workshop with an intended smaller attendance, designed to have enhanced discussions and calculations following on as an overflow from the FISW2.0 meeting. This was to facilitate greater technical progress in certain areas. The workshop was to take place at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel which during WW2 was the HQ for the American Army in preparation for the Invasion of Europe.

The two days of scientific discussions on interstellar flight, will be focussed on the themes of (1) Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and Search for Extraterrestrial Artefacts (2) Stellar Engineering, Space Warps and Worm Holes. Further details on these sessions below:

SESSION ONE: SETI & SETA

  1. SETI and the Inverted Zoo Hypothesis, Kelvin F Long

  2. M-Stars and Electric Sails, Consequences for SETI, Greg Matloff

  3. Pulsar Positioning System: Implications for SETI, Interstellar Travel and Colonization, Clement Vidal.

SESSION TWO: STELLAR ENGINERING, SPACE WARPS AND WORM HOLES

  1. Absurdly Benign Casimir Traversable Wormholes, Remo Garattini.

In addition to the normal scientific proceedings there will also be an opening social event on the evening of Monday 8th June, starting at 18:00 hours taking place at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel. It will feature a classical violinist as background entertainment.

There will also be a formal workshop dinner on Tuesday 9th June starting at 19:30 hours, with a special dinner speaker to be announced. This was Dr Claudio Maccone of the International Academy of Astronautics.

An invitation will be made to submit papers from selected authors post-conference, to the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society (JBIS) and/or publication in the official conference proceedings. More information will be posted to this site as the planning develops.

Everything was booked up and ready for this workshop but it was cancelled at the last moment due to the emergence of the Covid-19 virus. Since the pandemic continued for two years no other workshops have been organised since.
